Recently, I got some not-so-flattering comments for using AI in image generation and videos.

โ€œYou didnโ€™t draw it. This is AI.โ€
โ€œThis is lazy AI work. You shouldโ€™ve animated it yourself.โ€
And my personal favorite: โ€œThis is lazy work.โ€

I love the haters. Theyโ€™ve pushed me harder in life than encouragement ever did. Honestly, I probably owe more of my success to critics than to cheerleaders.

That said, AI is not the enemy.

AI is a tool. It saves time and levels the playing field for those who know how to use it. And when it comes to AI, the user matters more than the tool itself. As my machine learning professor at Stanford once said, it all depends on the userโ€™s experience and knowledge.

When it comes to image generation, understanding art matters. If you know the look or style you want and can reference specific artists or works, the results are dramatically better. Writing and editing are no different. I used to spend hours editing blog posts. Now it takes minutes with Grammarly. Is that laziness? Not really.

I still write my own posts. I come up with my own ideas for images, scripts for videos, record music and voices, and edit ads. AI just makes the process faster and far more cost-effective.

For me, AI isnโ€™t replacing work. Itโ€™s removing friction.

Now, when it comes to kids, AI can be dangerous. If AI replaces a teenโ€™s ability to think or create, thatโ€™s a problem. But as an educational tool, AI is incredible. It can tutor you on almost any subject. Is it better than a human tutor? Iโ€™m not sure. But one thing is certain: almost anyone can afford a $30-a-month subscription. Not everyone can afford a $100-an-hour tutor.

AI will make some people smarter and some people dumber. Thatโ€™s reality.

But we live in a time when you can create a funny video ad for $100 that used to cost $50,000. You can record a song you wrote for $30 a month and try hundreds of takes until you get it right. Do you know what that cost just five years ago? Thousands.

Thatโ€™s not laziness. Thatโ€™s liberation.

Is this art? Time will tell.
Are we stealing from artists who came before AI? I donโ€™t know.

Art has never come from a vacuum. Movies reference movies that came before them. Songs echo earlier songs. Do you really think War and Peace was possible without Homerโ€™s Iliad? Letโ€™s not kid ourselves.

Teach your kids how to use AI properly. Those who master it will have a much brighter future.

Assuming, of course, AI doesnโ€™t decide weโ€™re unnecessary.
